Fullerton, Calif. Providing design engineers with an alternative to large resistor network packages that require long signal traces and complex circuit layouts, TT Electronics BI Technologies Electronic Component Division has developed a SOT-23 packaged precision voltage divider network for aerospace, industrial, military and medical industries.
Designated the SS1 series, these divider networks consist of two ultra-stable Nichrome thin-film resistors on a silicon substrate. Packaged in a 3-lead SOT-23 package, the two resistors are connected in series for an optimized voltage divider circuit. A 3-resistor network is also available in a four-leaded SOT-143 package.
The resistor networks are available in a wide range of resistance nominal and ratio values from 5 Kohms to 100 Kohms. Standard ratio values include, but are not limited to, 1:1, 1:4 and 1:10. Individual resistor tolerances are available to ±0.1% and ratio tolerances are offered to ±0.05%. Standard temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) ratings are ±25 ppm/°C with tracking tolerances between resistors better than ±5 ppm/°C. The operating temperature range is -55°C to 125°C.
"The SS1 Series networks offer design engineers the ability to place a precision network virtually anywhere in their circuit layout, eliminating the need for the long traces and complex routing schemes required for large networks," said Mike Torres, applications engineer and product marketing manager for BI Technologies Electronic Component Division, in a statement. "The SOT-23 package occupies a similar size footprint to a standard 1206 chip divider.
Torres also said that by using several SS1 series voltage dividers with various ratio values, designers can also eliminate the need for more expensive custom resistor networks.
The SS1 series resistors are produced on 150-mm silicon wafers and are assembled into standard SOT-23 transistor packages to provide mechanical and environmental protection. The company's proprietary passivation process eliminates concerns about moisture environments for the Nichrome resistive elements. Environmental testing for 1,000 hours at 85°C and 85% RH resulted in a less than 0.2% shift in resistance values, making these resistors ultra-stable with long-term reliability.
Typical pricing for the SS1 series resistor networks is less than $0.30 in quantities of 10,000. Delivery is eight weeks.
