Targeting a wide range of factory automation applications, PLX Technology Inc. has just released its PLX FastLane PCI 6466, a 64-bit, 66MHz PCI bridge specified to operate over the full industrial temperature (I-Temp) rating range.
Claiming it has a footprint that is 25 percent smaller than any other 64-bit PCI bridge, Steve Moore, senior product marketing manage at PLX, said the device is designed operate asynchronously, allowing support of legacy devices, and non-transparent bridging of multiple hosts.
Capable of five volt tolerant I/O, true non-transparent (as well as transparent) operation, the PCI 6466 is compliant with the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) 2.1 R2.0 with PI=1 specification for Hot Swap compatibility.
Moore said the PCI 6466 can be used to bridge from legacy 32-bit, 33MHz PCI designs to 64-bit, 66MHz PCI with true asynchronous operation, while also using much of an original design's existing software.
The PCI 6466 is supported by a PLX Rapid Development Kit (RDK) which includes a PCI adapter board that plugs into any standard PCI slot (3.3V or 5V), along with the necessary drivers and advanced programming interface (API) software to quickly develop boards and systems.
The PLX FastLane PCI 6466 PCI bridge is available now in BGA packages at $28 in 1,000-piece quantities. The PCI 6466 RDK is available now, at $495.
