San Jose, Calif—Renesas Technology says its RJK0305DPB/RJK0301DPB high-side/low-side chip set achieves an efficiency of 90 percent, the highest in the industry, for small DC/DC converters (e.g., 20 amps at 1.3 volts from a 12-volt input). In such applications, this increase in efficiency corresponds to an increase in output current of about 15 percent as compared to converters built with the company's previous generation MOSFETs, and ultimately allows for smaller converters.
The RJK0305DPB, utilizing what the company says is a semiconductor processing technology optimized for power supply applications, has enhanced high-speed (switching) characteristics; Qgd is 2.2 nC, reduced approximately 15 percent from the previous generation. The on-resistance of the RJK0301DPB low-side MOSFET has been cut about 20 percent (3.5 milliohms maximum at Vgs = 4.5) for reduced conduction losses.
Both MOSFETs are available in a LFPAK for high thermal efficiency and minimal inductance for better high-current performance.
The RJK0305DPB has initially been priced at $1 each, and the RJK0301DPB at $1.50, both in 10k quantities. They will be available in June.
