Santa Clara, CANational Semiconductor Corporation announced the newest member of its Simply Blue wireless family, a Bluetooth module that simplifies RF board design. The LMX9830 module eliminates cables in advanced data and voice applications for the industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) market as well as various hands free devices.
The module embeds a complete Bluetooth node including a CMOS radio transceiver, a protocol stack, application-specific profiles and a high-level command interpreter for communication with the host using the on-chip UART interface.
In addition to supporting numerous serial cable replacement applications, the device supports embedded data and voice-oriented applications by enabling multiple connections with maximum data throughput and synchronous audio links (SCO).
Housed in a 60-pin FBGA package measuring 9mm by 6mm by 1.2mm, the device combines a Bluetooth transceiver with a base band processor. The base band processor features full Bluetooth 2.0 functionality and firmware and an enhanced command structure. In addition, it combines on-chip, ROM-based memory with a seamless memory patch controller and flexible patch RAM. Receiver sensitivity is specified at -81 dBm and UART speeds are configurable up to 921.6 kbits/s.
All hardware and firmware is included to provide a complete solution from antenna through the complete lower and upper layers of the Bluetooth stack, up to the application including the Generic Access Profile (GAP), Service Discovery Application Profile (SDAP) and the Serial Port Profile (SPP). The module includes a configurable service database to fulfill requests for additional profiles on the host.
