Sunnyvale, Calif. Silicon Storage Technology Inc. is offering serial flash memory support for Intel Corp.'s 82573E LAN and 945 Express chipset families.
The 4-Mbit and 8-Mbit nonvolatile serial flash devices, which were introduced a year ago, are now being aimed at companies seeking to improve network management by implementing Intel's 82573E LAN chipset that features active management technology (AMT).
The devices also provide designers of Intel 945 Express chipsets featuring 82801GB and 82801GR I/O controller hubs with a BIOS solution that supports high-end functions in notebooks, desktops and servers.
The devices feature 4-Kbyte small sector blocks, easing software handling in systems that are equipped with AMT, a platform resident hardware and firmware solution that enables IT departments to remotely manage networked platforms in any system state.
Using the company's proprietary SuperFlash technology, the devices offer a 33-MHz clock frequency and a typical standby current of 8-µA. They also incorporate a four-wire, SPI-compatible interface that uses fewer pins to transfer data to and from a system CPU. The interface helps reduce board space, power consumption and cost compared to other nonvolatile memory devices, according to the company.
"With SST's SuperFlash technology, small sector architecture and our capability to provide high-volume products through our world-class manufacturing partners, developers of Intel 945 Express chipset family and Intel 82573E-based systems will be able to bring new designs to market quickly and cost effectively," said Michael Briner, senior vice president of SST's Application Specific Product Group.
In 100,000-unit quantities, the 4-Mbit flash device, part number SST25LF040A, and 8-Mbit flash device, part number SST25LF080A, cost 75 cents and 95 cents each, respectively. They are available now in production quantities.
