Raleigh, N.C. Stackpole Electronics Inc. has developed a new SMD resistor technology to address increased demand for higher limiting element voltage handling in surface-mount packaging.
Designated the RVC Series, these thickfilm chip resistors are designed to provide higher voltage handling than standard thickfilm chip resistors. Available in 0603 to 2512 case sizes, the RVC devices offer limiting element voltage ratings up to 800 volts with resistance values from 47Ω to 51 MΩ in tolerances to 1% with temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) ratings of ±100 ppm/°C. They are rated for operation from -55°C to 125°C.
"We have seen an increased need for surface-mount devices in the medium voltage range, particularly 500 to 800 volts. As a result we developed a thickfilm technology which has greater LEV-handling than standard thickfilm chip resistors, but is much more cost effective than specialty high voltage resistors," said Rob Hudspeth, director of sales and marketing for Stackpole, in a statement.
Typical applications include power supplies, lighting controls and other high-voltage applications.
The RVC 0603 device is priced at approximately $0.03 in quantities of 20,000. Delivery is six to eight weeks. Pricing for the RVC series depends on case size and limiting element voltage rating.
