Norfolk, England Syfer Technology Ltd. now offers an extensive range of planar capacitor arrays that range from a simple 2-hole unit to a 155-way device with up to four different capacitance values, or a combination of filtered, unfiltered and ground lines. Providing weight and volumetric efficiency along with high performance and reliability make these devices suitable for use in filtered connectors, said the company.
The planar arrays are available in a range of capacitance values, depending on dielectric (C0G or X7R), hole size and voltage. Typically, capacitance ranges available include 47 pF to 4 nF for C0G and 250 pF to 600 nF for X7R.
The company notes that the use of a unique "wet" manufacturing process minimizes shrinkage and enables the production of both very small and very large planar arrays. Arrays are available to suit a broad range of connector types, including nanoD, microD and subD types, which are widely used for telecommunications and industrial applications, as well as circular and ARINC-type connectors for military and aerospace equipment.
The 5-way nanoD array, for example, measures only 4.5 mm x 2.8 mm, while larger arrays can measure up to 60 mm in diameter, or 76 mm in length. These are close to both the upper and lower limits of planar array manufacturing, while still providing devices that meet the most demanding electrical specifications, said the company. Working voltages are typically 100-, 200- and 300-V, but can be up to 1 kV, with dielectric withstanding voltages up to 2.5 kVdc.
Planar capacitor arrays are primarily custom devices, thus pricing will vary widely, depending on complexity and quantity. Pricing typically ranges from $3 to $150. Delivery is five weeks, or eight weeks if tooling is required.
