San Diego, Calif.Competitively-priced and filled with goodies, an evaluation kit for Applied Micro Circuits Corp.'s PowerPC 440EP includes a board called Yosemite, industry-standard development tools, sample applications, system benchmarks, and hardware design files.
The 5-by-7-in. Yosemite board includes AMCC's 533-MHz PowerPC 440 EP processor; 256 Mbytes of SDRAM; 32-Mbytes of flash memory; two 10- and 100-Mbits-per-second Ethernet ports; USB 2.0 port; and JTAG, trace, and PCI host connectors. On-board software includes Uboot firmware, a Linux 2.6 kernel, and a license-able processor and board diagnostic package. Besides Linux, the board can run and load other PowerPC-compatible operating systems.
On the kit's CD-ROM sits a wide range of sample applications, including Web, Telnet, and FTP servers; system configuration utilities; evaluation versions of numerous development tools; industry-standard processor performance benchmarks; and, yes, a game.
