Worcester, Mass. Allegro MicroSystems, Inc. updated its legacy Hall-effect bipolar switches, unipolar switches and Hall-effect latches for improved performance and newer package options.
The A120x family (1201/02/03/04) Hall-effect bipolar switches are stress-resistant sensors suited for operation over an extended temperature range. These devices are drop-in replacements for Allegro's A3132, A3133 and A3134 line of sensors.
The device's magnetic switchpoints are optimized at test with end-of-line trimming, which provides tighter switchpoint ranges than the A313X line of bipolar switches.
The A110x family replaces the A314x and A312x families of unipolar switches.
The A110x Hall-effect switches include the following on a single silicon chip: voltage regulator, Hall-voltage generator, small-signal amplifier, Schmitt trigger, and NMOS output transistor. The integrated voltage regulator permits operation from 3.8 to 24 V. The extensive on-board protection circuitry makes possible a ±30 V absolute maximum voltage rating for superior protection in automotive and industrial motor commutation applications, without adding external components.
All of the switches in both families (A120x and A110x) are identical except for magnetic switchpoints.
The A1210, A1211, A1212, A1213 and A1214 Hall-effect latches are next-generation replacements for Allegro's A317x and A318x lines of latching switches.
All three families were produced in BiCMOS technology and feature fast power-on time and low noise operation. The high performance is made possible through unique Hall plate geometries and low offset low noise amplifiers that minimize noise and reduce the residual offset voltage normally caused by device over-molding, temperature dependencies and thermal stress. Unique Hall element geometries and low-offset amplifiers help to minimize noise and reduce the residual offset voltage normally caused by device overmolding, temperature excursions and thermal stress.
Device programming is performed on all of Allegro's switches and latches after packaging to ensure increased switchpoint accuracy by eliminating offsets that can be induced by package stress.
Targeting the consumer, computer/office, industrial and automotive markets, the A121x, A120x and A110x families are provided in a three-pin single in-line package (UA) and a three-pin surface-mount package (LH).
Additionally, for the first time, all of the switches and latches are being offered in Pb-free plating.
The A120x is priced at 41 cents each in 10,000-piece quantities for the "E" temperature range. Click here for the A120x data sheet. The A110x is priced between 39 cents and 61 cents each depending on root and temperature range in same quantities. Click here for the A110x data sheet. The A121x is priced between 39 cents and 67 cents depending on root and temperature range also in 10,000s. Click here for A121x data sheet.
