San Jose, Calif. Altera Corp. is offering a faster speed grade for the two largest members of its Stratix II field programmable gate array (FPGA) family, the EP2S130 and EP2S180.
Altera added the new speed grade (-3) to the EP2S130 and EP2S180, helping the devices to achieve a 500-MHz internal clock frequency. As a result, the devices are said to offer a 20% speed increase compared with the previous offerings.
“Altera is leading the way with 90-nm high-density FPGAs. While our competition struggles to get their high-density product out, the entire Stratix II family is in volume production now,” said David Greenfield, senior director for marketing for high-density FPGA products, in a statement. “The combination of a strong partnership with world-leading foundry TSMC and our patented redundancy technology enabled us to achieve exceptional yield on these large Stratix II devices.”
The new -3 speed grade for both the EP2S130 and EP2S180 is available now. In addition, industrial temperature and lead-free Stratix II device are also available.
