Milpitas, Calif. Linear Technology Corp. is trumpeting what it claims is the first 500 mA very low dropout regulator (VLDO) with fixed low-output voltage options.
The VLDO features input voltage capability as low as 1.4 V for fixed output voltages down to 1.2 V. Fixed 1.5 V and 1.8 V options are also offered.
The LT3021 maintains its 160-mV dropout voltage up to 500 mA of operating current, making it practical for applications requiring a low VIN to VOUT differential. Additionally, it offers micropower operation with only 120 μA of quiescent current and less than 3 μA in shutdown, maximizing battery run time in handheld applications.
The LT3021 regulator optimizes stability and transient response with low ESR, and ceramic output capacitors as small as 3.3 μF. Other LT3021 features include 0.05 percent line regulation and 0.2 percent load regulation. Internal protection circuitry includes reverse-battery protection, current limiting, thermal limiting with hysteresis and reverse-current protection.
The LT3021 regulator is available in a 16-lead DFN (5mm x 5mm) package with exposed pad, and an 8-lead SOIC package.
Both the LT3021EDH-1.2/1.5/1.8 (16-lead DFN) and the LT3021ES8-1.2/1.5/1.8 (SOIC-8) are available from stock. Pricing in 1,000-piece quantities starts at $2.25 each. Click here for the LT3021EDH and LT3021ES8 data sheet.
