Smyrna, Ga. Murata Electronics North America claims its new BLM18SG series of ferrite beads in a 0603 package offers a DC resistance that is approximately 50% lower than conventional ferrite beads, enabling a low voltage drop that reduces power consumption. In addition to the low DC resistance, the new series provides high current capacity and excellent noise suppression, said the company.
To meet greater demands for faster processing and increased current requirements, the BLM18SG can handle up to 6 amps (A). This feature is particularly important because it helps manufacturers meet FCC regulations regarding noise suppression for high current power lines, which were established to prevent an increase in electromagnetic interference (EMI) from the influx of equipment use such as computers and fax machines in both homes and offices, said the company.
This ferrite bead can be used in a variety of applications including power line filtering for DC power lines in compact mobile equipment such as personal digital assistants (PDAs), digital cameras and cellular phones.
The RoHS-compliant BLM18SG ferrite beads are available for the sample price of five cents. Delivery is approximately eight to ten weeks.
