Belvidere, Ill. NDK (Nihon Dempa Kogyo Co., Ltd.) targets US-CDMA and UMTS phones with its new series of SAW duplexers in 3.8 x 3.8 x 1.5-mm packages. These devices are used to separate the data that is simultaneously sent and received by the phone into two different frequencies.
Designed for US-CDMA applications, the new WX807C device offers a nominal frequency of 881.5 MHz in the Rx-band and 836.5 MHz in the Tx-band, while the new WX910A targets UMTS applications with a nominal frequency of 2140 MHz in the Rx-band and 1950 MHz in the Tx-band.
These new SAW duplexers deliver a low insertion loss of 1.6 dB maximum in the Tx-band and 2.4 dB maximum in the Rx-band. They also exhibit high attenuation that meets the blocking characteristics described in 3GPP standard TS 34.121 6.5 on the handset.
These duplexers operate in a temperature range of -25° to 85°C and their input/output impedance is nominally 50Ω. Both SAW duplexers are lead-free, RoHS compliant, and are designed to withstand the requirements of reflow soldering using lead-free solder.
NDK has developed this plastic package utilizing the same material found in plastic packaged semiconductors, and is said to offer many advantages over conventional ceramic packages. These duplexers are 40 to 50% lighter than ceramic, are easier to handle and assemble, and the packaging material is less expensive, according to the company.
The WX807C (CDMA) duplexer is priced at approximately $1.15 each, and the WX910A (UTMS) is priced at approximately $1.62 each, both in quantities of 10,000 on tape and reel. Delivery is 12 weeks.
