Norwood, Mass. Analog Devices Inc. claims engineers can now create complete, robust timing solutions in minutes with its ADIsimCLK clock IC design and simulation tool and three new clock ICs.
The free tool includes tutorials, design wizards and user-friendly data entry screens. Applications include wireless transceivers, broadband infrastructure, medical imaging, general instrumentation, and automated test equipment.
The highly-integrated, pin-programmable clock ICs (AD9513, AD9514 and AD9515) extend output clock rates to 1.6 GHz.
The clock ICs feature ultra-low jitter performance which can improve signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) by 6 to 12 dB, said Kevin Kattmann, ADI’s product line director for high-speed converters.
"The ICs introduced today help customers who need a better way to distribute low jitter clocks across a crowded printed-circuit board to multiple sub-circuits. Customers can now route common clock frequencies up to 1.6 GHz to the AD9513/14/15, which perform divides, phase offsets, and delays in close proximity to the circuits needing clocks," Kattmann said.
ADIsimCLK is the first tool of its kind to simulate jitter of less than 1-ps rms and phase noise less than -150 dBc/Hz, Kittmann said. The clock ICs can also improve a system’s overall noise performance by maintaining additive jitter levels of less than 300 fs rms, he said.
Packaged in a 32-lead LFCSP, the AD9513, AD9514 and AD9515 can be placed close to devices requiring clocks. All three products feature 4-level logic pins. The ICs offer LVPECL outputs, as well as user-selectable low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) and CMOS options.
All three AD951x products are specified to operate over the extended industrial temperature range. The AD9514 and AD9515 are available in full production, and the AD9513 is sampling with full production planned for later this month.
