Irvine, Calif. Two new blades pack Intel's latest low-power Pentium M processors. Board maker ADLINK Technology is adding these two boards to its 6U-sized CompactPCI cPCI-6840 family.
The family combines Pentium Ms with the 855GME MCH chipset and two different I/O controller hubs. The new blades carry cPCI-6841 and cPCI-6842 designations.
The CompactPCI form-factor is for applications requiring the board space of a 6U product, but without extra functions such as the IPMI (Internet protocol Multicast Initiative, as defined in the PICMG 2.9 specs).
For its part on these new boards, the Pentium provides efficient instruction execution units coupled with a large L2 cache. The 855GME silicon has a 250-MHz 32-bit 3D/2D graphics engine supporting CRT and flat-panel displays. Peripherals include SATA (serial ATA 150), PATA (parallel advanced technology attachment), and USB 2.0 (Universal Serial Bus) ports, as well as a watchdog timer and serial port.
Adlink's existing cPCI-6840 features a Pentium M clocking as fast as 1.6-GHz. It is PICMG 2.16 Packet Switching Backplane compliant, and uses a 64-bit 66-MHz universal PCI-X bus. Its front-panel I/O supports dual PMCs (PCI mezzanine cards), Gigabit LAN, SATA, USB 2.0, DVI, video, LVDS, an (optionally) SCSI. It’s priced at just over $2000, without processor of your choice, or memory.
The new cPCI-6841 features two DDR (double data-rate) SO-DIMM (dual in-line memory module) locations for up to 2-Gbytes of memory, with optional ECC (error checking and correction). It is a 32-bit 33-MHz CompactPCI product. I/O includes dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The board also includes a 2.5-in. hard disk drive bay and a CF (CompactFlash) socket. Additionally, the cPCI-6841's front-panel I/O: includes VGA, USB, keyboard, mouse, and COM (serial) ports. It’s priced at just under $2000, less processor options and memory.
The cPCI-6842 uses two DDR 333 DIMMs for 2-Gbytes (max.) of memory, with optional ECC. It also includes one 32-bit 33-MHz PMC site, has an on-board hard disk drive bay and a hot-swappable CF socket. Front-panel I/O ports include VGA, two USB ports, keyboard and mouse ports, a parallel printer port, two Gbit Ethernet ports, and two COM ports. Like the cPCI-6841, the -6842 is also priced at just under $2000, less processor options and memory.
