Menlo Park, Calif. Raychem Circuit Protection, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has expanded its line of overcurrent protection devices with its RoHS-compliant slow blow surface-mount fuses. Available in industry standard 1206 chip sizes, the fuse line offers some of the highest current ratings available in this size package. Other key features include high reliability and strong arc suppression characteristics.
Intended for DC power applications of up to 63 Vdc, slow blow fuses help provide overcurrent protection for systems that experience large and frequent current surges as part of their normal operation. Available in current values ranging from 1.0 to 8.0 A, applications include protection of power supplies, capacitor filter banks, LCD backlight inverters and electric motors.
These fuses feature clear time characteristics of the following:
- 4 hours minimum at 100% of rated current
- 120 seconds maximum and 1 second minimum at 200% of rated current
- 3 seconds maximum and 0.1 second minimum at 300% rated current
- 0.05 seconds maximum and 0.002 seconds minimum at 400% of rated current
The company said the fuse's monolithic, multilayer design helps provide some of the highest current ratings available in the 1206 footprint and enhances high temperature performance in a wide range of circuit protection designs. The RoHS-compliant device is designed for operating temperatures between -55°C and 125°C, and withstands soldering temperatures of up to 260° C for 60 seconds maximum.
Available on 7-inch (178 mm) reels, the surface-mount fuses are priced at $0.30 each in quantities of 100,000. Samples are available now. Delivery is eight weeks.
