Worcester, Mass.—Allegro MicroSystems' A8436, A8438, and A8439 photoflash capacitor charger ICs, which comprise a flyback converter with an internal 40-volt DMOS switch and IGBT driver, provide a highly integrated solution for Xenon photoflash, digital camera, and camera phone applications. The A8436 and A8438 feature three-level pin-selectable current limiting and a low-leakage feedback scheme. The A8439 features eight-level digitally programmable current limiting and a continuous output-monitoring scheme.
The flyback converter employs a proprietary algorithm to rapidly charge the photoflash capacitor to the desired voltage. The IGBT driver features high drive current capability, high speed, and high efficiency. These ICs can be operated from a single Li+ battery or two NiMH/alkaline batteries. When alkaline batteries are used, the chips use the IGBT drive supply as the internal bias supply.
