Chestnut Ridge, New YorkTest-and-measurement equipment maker LeCroy Corp is offering what it says is the industry's first automated test suite for PCI Express testing and validation. The company's SDA PCI Express (SDA-PCIE-G2) software works in conjunction with its SDA (Serial Data Analyzers) and PCI Express Protocol Analysis and traffic generation tools.
PCI Express is currently operating at 2.5-Gbits/s, but is expected to evolve to 5-Gbits/s speeds by next year. The PCI Express software package includes parametric testing for Gen 1 (first generation) and preliminary testing support for Gen 2, which can be upgraded as the spec evolves.
By providing support for high-speed PCI Express, with amplitude, jitter, and eye analysis software, you can evaluate standards-compliance using LeCroy's SDA11000 digital serial oscilloscope and its D11000PS active differential probe. The SDA11000 analyzer provides for 11 GHz overall system bandwidth, capable of acquiring and analyzing some of today's fastest serial data signals.
With these PCI Express protocol analyzer and traffic generation tools, LeCroy claims exclusive coverage of test assertions in accordance with the PCIe Electrical Design Consideration Gen 1 requirements. This lets you undertake a systematic checklist-style design approach to device development. The goal is to develop compliant and interoperable products.
A New Class of Tools
LeCroy also claims its SDA PCI Express software package goes far beyond existing software tools. For example, its X-Replay is a unique application framework where every saved experimental result resides in an ODBC-compliant database. A report generation engine, interfacing with the underlying Microsoft Access-compatible database, facilitates the creation of custom text and graphics-based reports.
The inherent benefits of X-Replay can be applied to device development teams working in parallel development cycles. These folks often need to combine, study, and interpret performance data, and correlate it with prior design runs. In manufacturing/production test environments it can be used where key performance parameters are monitored using control charts or other in-process indicators of device performance
