Quixilica Neptune 2 Synchronizes Multi-Channel Sensor Arrays to Within One Sample
Chelmsford, MATEK Microsystems, Inc. of Chelmsford MA and QinetiQ of Malvern, UK announce the new Quixilica Neptune 2 VXS, the first VXS product to combine FPGA technology with a dual channel, 2.2 GSPS (giga samples per second) architecture. Neptune 2 is a 6U VME/VXS payload card for high-speed streaming analog-to-digital applications, combining an ultra high sample rate with up to 10-bit resolution and multi-channel synchronization to single sample resolution, an improvement of 16x over existing technologies. Applications such as adaptive radar beam forming, synthetic aperture radar, signals intelligence and electronic warfare can achieve a level of accuracy never before possible.
Neptune 2 combines high signal bandwidth with fully integrated onboard FPGA processing to provide an optimum solution for high performance applications. Using the world's fastest ADCs from Atmel provides improved performance capabilities that are especially effective in noisier signal environments where jamming or high levels of interference may occur. Enhanced channel-to-channel synchronization between multiple Neptune 2 cards supports applications requiring up to 32 channels coherent to within one sample. And, the utilization of the latest technologies has reduced the average power consumption of Neptune 2 by 20% over the previous version of Neptune.

Neptune 2 VXS is part of the QinetiQ Quixilica VXS family of FPGA based processing hardware which provides a complete range of flexible analog and digital I/O products in the VITA 41.0 VXS form factor. VXS adds a high-speed P0 connector to VME boards to support switched fabric interconnects such as InfiniBand, Serial RapidIO and PCI Express along with low latency point-to-point links such as Serial FPDP and VITA 55. Neptune 2 couples the world's highest performance analog front end with a scalable FPGA based processing architecture. Memory and inter-processor communications resources have been optimized to address the requirements of very high performance real time digital signal processing applications. Together TEK Microsystems and QinetiQ provide a range of development kits, FPGA cores, software and system platforms required for maximum development efficiency.
