Norfolk, England. Designed for applications that are exempt from the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive, Syfer Technology now offers a series of surface-mount chip capacitors with traditional tin/lead terminations.
They may be used for military/aerospace, space and automotive applications.
Specific product applications are currently exempt from the EU directive while technical issues including the possibility of tin whiskers are under investigation. However, Syfer believes that certain applications will continue to require a tin/lead finish.
The company offers a tin/lead finish with a minimum of 10% lead across a wide range of multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs). They are available in capacitance values from 0.45 pF to 82 μF with operating voltages from 16 Vdc to 10 kVdc for low- or high-voltage/current applications.
The MLCCs can be supplied with either a standard silver or a FlexiCap base coat, both with a nickel barrier and the tin/lead finish.
Syfer also offers components that meet the RoHS requirements and is fully approved to the ISO 14001 environmental standard.
The MLCCs with tin/lead terminations are priced at approximately $0.04 to $1.00, depending on chip size, voltage, capacitance value/tolerance and quantity. Typical lead time is six to eight weeks.
