Taipei, TaiwanVIA Technologies Inc.'s VIA K8M890 core logic chipset features the new S3 Graphics DeltaChrome integrated graphics processor (IGP) core designed to meet the requirements of the upcoming Microsoft Windows Vista operating system.
The chipset supports DirectX 9.0 and Pixel Shader 2.0 for high-quality video processing. It also features the Chromotion Video Display Engine for enhanced visual output, and offers extensive display support, including all HDTV output formats up to 1920 x 1080 pixels. It also features a 128-bit 2D/3D engine with dual pixel pipeline. Support for the latest PCI Express x16 discrete graphics cards allows for powerful system upgrades.
"The VIA K8M890 builds on VIA's strong position as the leading supplier of IGP chipsets for the AMD64 platform, and reinforces our commitment to OEMs and system integrators to develop powerful yet versatile platforms," said Chewei Lin, VIA's vice president of product marketing, in a statement. "With the new S3 Graphics DeltaChrome IGP core, we have designed in graphics and video headroom to ensure AMD64 platforms are equipped to support future graphics and high-definition multimedia requirements."

The VIA K8M890 supports all of AMD's Athlon64 and AMD Sempron processors. The VIA K8M890 integrates VIA's Hyper8 technology, supporting a 1GHz/16-bit HyperTransport processor-to-chipset link that delivers up to 8-Gbytes/s of bandwidth.
The Ultra V-Link interface delivers data throughput speeds of up to 1-Gbytes/s from the VIA VT8251 South Bridge to the VIA K8M890 North Bridge.
