Sprint Nextel is launching a high-speed wireless network complete with a wireless music store; and just distributed review units of a new cell phone with EV-DO for faster connections.
EV-DO, or Evolution Data Only, provides wireless connections from 300,000 to 600,000 bps, 10x as fast as dialup modems. EV-DO requires that a portion of Sprint Nextel's airwaves be dedicated to data transmission. EV-DO has been used at airports and a few business environments in approximately 130 cities, but this marks an expansion of the service.
The handset by Samsung, features a "Sprint Music Store" option offering a myriad of tunes for $2.50 per song--well above the ITunes' $0.99 price tag; but also enables the purchaser to download a copy of the same song to a computer.
