Richardson, TexasIf you've ever grappled with 3G (third generation) cellphone pre-validation interoperability testing, you'll be interested in new Windows-based software from test-and-measurement house Anritsu Co. It's new NSL (network simulation library) for its existing MD8480B signaling tester lets you conduct pre-validation of IOT (interoperability testing between 3G UE (user equipment) and the world's various 3G networks.
Developed with test cases created based on actual operational experience, the NSL increases the MD8480B's analysis capability to include voice, IP/PPP (packet), video call, SMS (short messaging service), and multi-call services. Anritsu claims its approach will dramatically reduce the cost of IOT.
Simulate Any Base
The NSL's ability to simulate virtually any mobile base station is critical to 3G UE manufacturers, who are now developing so-called international devices that must be compatible with different 3G networks throughout the world. It's available with various test scenarios to fit any test requirement.
In addition to being based on actual operational experiences, the NSL test scenarios are in full compliance with the most recent 3GPP (Third Generation Partnership Project) specifications. The result is that you can have greater confidence in UE validation before actual product launch.
The Windows-based NSL makes it simpler to execute test cases and perform accurate verification tests by using a GUI (graphical user interface). A suite of test cases can be selected using a single mouse click. The test case categories are then displayed in a familiar tree view. Test case contents and progress can be monitored through sub-windows. UE operating procedures are displayed in pop-up windows.
For its part, Anritsu's MD8480B W-CDMA Signaling Tester includes test functions for mobile station modulation and de-modulation processing, as well as protocol sequence tests such as location registration, origination, and termination. It also tests handover and disconnect.
Price And Availability
Anritsu says its NSL is available immediately with pricing beginning at $48,190 for NSL and basic test scenarios. The MD8480B's base price is about $107,000.
