Sunnyvale, Calif.Two low-current differential signaling (LCDS) serializer/deserializer (SerDes) chipsets from Maxim Integrated Products are designed to communicate over a single twisted pair or differential line, helping to simplify design, reduce cost, and improve EMI.
The 10-bit (MAX9225 and MAX9226) and 22-bit (MAX9223 and MAX9224) low-power LCDS chipsets, are being targeted at clamshell, multimedia, and PDA cell phones, as well as digital copiers and laser printers.
The MAX9225 serializes 8 bits of LVTTL/LVCMOS RGB digital video data, 2 bits of LVTTL/LVCMOS control data, and a clock into a single LCDS serial clock and data stream. The MAX9226 deserializes a single LCDS serial input into 10 single-ended LVTTL/LVCMOS outputs.
The MAX9223 serializes 18 bits of LVTTL/LVCMOS RGB digital video data, 4 bits of LVTTL/LVCMOS control data, and a clock into a single LCDS serial clock and data stream. The MAX9224 deserializes a single LCDS serial input into 22 single-ended LVTTL/LVCMOS outputs.
The SerDes chipsets reduce the number of interconnect wires in clamshell phones from 11 to 2 (MAX9225/MAX9226) or from 23 to 2 (MAX9223/MAX9224).
The MAX9225/MAX9226 chipsets are suitable for interfacing to image sensors with
8-bit-wide data output, and for simplifying data transmission in digital copiers and laser
printers. The MAX9223/MAX9224 are ideal for driving 320 x 240 resolution QVGA and QCIF LCD displays in cell phones, digital copiers, and laser printers.
The SerDes operate from a 2.5-V or 3.3-V core supply and feature a separate supply for interfacing to 1.8-V to 3.3-V logic levels. All devices are specified for operation from -40 degrees Celsius to +85° Celsius. Inputs and outputs meet ±15kV HBM (Human Body Model) ESD protection.
The MAX9225/MAX9226 are available in a 16-pin, 3mm x 3mm TQFN package, while the MAX9223/MAX9224 are available in a 28-pin, 4mm x 4mm TQFN
package. Prices start at 76 cents for the MAX9225/MAX9226 and $1.09 for the MAX9223/MAX9224 (25,000-up, FOB USA).
