Sunnyvale, Calif.—Touting lower noise and a patented high-voltage circuit to deliver higher brightness levels, the HV859 driver IC from Supertex delivers ±105 volts to electroluminescent lamps measuring up to 5 in2 for LCD backlighting, PDAs, mobile cellular phone keypads and other handheld wireless devices.
The chip includes two oscillators, a switching MOSFET, and the high-voltage EL lamp driver stage.
The HV859 features patented output timing circuitry for high efficiency as well as a regulated output to ensure consistently high brightness. Additional circuitry ensures the voltage delivered to the EL lamp increases as the lamp's capacitance decreases, thus extending its lifetime. The HV859 also carries an enable function pin (no additional external components required) that facilitates chip control from a microprocessor.
