Raleigh, N.C. The RC series of carbon composition resistors from Stackpole Electronics Inc. is capable of handling overload voltages up to 1000 V and energy pulses up to 30 J.
The RC series is available in power ratings of 1/4-, 1/2- and 1-watt at 70°C, with a maximum overload voltage of 1000 V and a pulse handling rating of up to 30 J. These high-energy resistors provide a resistance value range from 1 ohm (Ω) to 20 MΩ with tolerances as low as ±5%. The operating temperature range is -55°C to 105°C.
The RC series resistors are said to handle more than six times the pulse energy and twice the limiting element voltage (1000 V) of comparably-sized wirewound resistors. In addition, the unique construction of the RC devices allows for very high resistance values and excellent pulse handling capability, yet they do not exhibit catastrophic failures demonstrated by other film and wirewound resistor types, and they are inherently non-inductive, according to the company.
These RC series resistors are suitable for applications that require a highly stable, but small resistor with the capability to withstand increased peak voltages and high energy pulses, which are required in applications such as defibrillators, consumer electronics, automotive ignition systems and industrial power supplies, said the company.
Typical pricing for the RC series is $0.08, depending on power and tolerance, in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is eight to ten weeks.
