SBE Announces Advanced iSCSI Storage Blade For Embedded Telephony/Data Applications
Gigabit Switched PTMC Processing Platform Combines SBE's Expertise in Embedded Network Cards with Pioneering iSCSI Technology from Subsidiary PyX Technologies
SAN RAMON, Calif. SBE Inc., a leading provider of advanced OEM networking communications solutions, today announced a new embedded storage blade for telecom use that incorporates the company's standards-based, fault-tolerant and cost-efficient iSCSI technology. The product, which offers multi-path data transmission at ERL2 (Error Recovery Level 2), also includes a PMC-based SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) controller to create a complete and reliable storage transport solution.
SBE's new iSCSI storage blade is built atop its HighWire HW400c/2 platform, a flexible, high-performance core processing platform for CompactPCI (CPCI) telephony and data communications applications. The HW400c/2 includes two PCI Telecom Mezzanine Card (PTMC) expansions sites that accept both CT Bus-enabled PTMC, and standard PMC, modules. The powerful computing platform also features a Freescale MPC7447A PowerPC processor and Marvell Discovery III system controller, addressing a wide range of communications applications.

PyX Technologies, acquired by SBE in mid-2005, is a leader in next-generation iSCSI (Internet Small Computer System Interface) technology. In 2004, PyX introduced a practical iSCSI solution that enables high-speed storage transport via the Internet, enabling a new generation of enterprise-class, IP-based Storage Area Networks (SANs).
The new SBE iSCSI storage blade leverages both the strength of PyX iSCSI data transport and the power of the HW400c/2 processing platform. The HW400c/2 is optimized for packet-based switch fabric system architectures and is fully compliant with the PICMG 2.16 cPSB specification. The cPSB standard provides a switched fabric backplane interconnection using Ethernet technology overlaid on the standard CPCI J3e connector. Dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces are provided on the HW400c/2 cPSB interface to support both the high availability dual node, and reduced cost single node, configurations.
SBE's storage blade also features up to 1GB DDR SDRAM and Disk-on-Chip flash file system storage to meet the demanding needs of current telecom and datacom applications. Additional developer features, including a serial console port and a COP emulator port, help speed code development.
