Glenrothes, Scotland TT electronics BI Technologies SMT Division has extended its range of non-inductive power resistors with a high-density device capable of handling extreme operating conditions in a small package. The RoHS-compliant BHPR series resistors feature increased power ratings up to 250 watts (W) and 300 W in a TO-227 package.
The BHPR series resistors offer a resistance range of 1 ohm (Ω) to 1 KΩ, with tolerances up to ±5 percent and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) values to 100 ppm/°C. The resistors are designed to provide complete thermal flow from the resistive element to the integral base metal flange of the TO-227 style packages, giving design engineers the ability to specify them for high-wattage power electronics circuits that can experience elevated temperatures during operation, said the company. The devices are rated for operation within the temperature range of -55°C to 155°C.
The BHPR series resistors feature low inductance M4 screw terminals that are said to provide superior vibration durability. Also providing high-frequency characteristics along with low thermal resistance, according to the company, the four-terminal BHPR 250 and 300-W devices consist of one or two resistors in each package that are configured as either a single element 300-W or a dual-resistor 250-W combination.
The resistors are suitable for a wide variety of applications including power supply snubbers, gate resistors, pulse generators, high frequency amplifiers, and dividers in high-end audio systems.
