San Jose, Calif. Cypress Semiconductor Corp. offers a new package option for its CY25701 programmable Spread Spectrum Crystal Oscillator (SSXO) that also comes with an embedded high-accuracy reference crystal in a single package. While the pre-matched crystal saves design time, the small package saves board space.
Available in an industry-standard 5.0 x 3.2-mm ceramic LCC package, the CY25701LXC provides an industry-standard pinout for easy drop-in replacement of other oscillators. The onboard crystal is compatible with Cypress' programmable Peak Reducing EMI Solutions (PREMIS) Spread Spectrum chip.
As a result, the pre-matched oscillator and crystal allow designers to eliminate difficult-to-use, higher-order crystals or crystal oscillators, said the company. In addition, frequency programmability enables designers to set a wide range of spread percentages for maximum electromagnetic interference (EMI) reduction.
The CY25701LXC SSXO offers a wide, programmable operating output frequency range from 10 to 166 MHz. The programmable spread spectrum feature provides a wide range of down- or center-spread percentages (0.5 to 4.0%) for maximum EMI reduction. Depending on the application, the CY25701 provides up to a 20 dB EMI reduction, based on a worst-case harmonic, according to the company.
Sampling now in the 4-pin LCC package, the CY25701LXC is priced at $1.95 in quantities of 1,000.
