Bedlington, UK TT electronics Welwyn Components has developed a range of compact flameproof power wirewound resistors in response to growing industry demands for smaller sizes for power rating. The WP-S series has been designed to give enhanced pulse handling capability and increased flameproof protection. The range is available in 1 W to 7 W (at 25 °C) power rating, with a wide ohmic range from R01 to 10K and tolerances to 1 %. It has an ambient temperate range of -55 to 155 °C. The series is RoHS compliant with Pb-free terminations and WP-S resistors can also be supplied with radial, goalpost or lancet pre-formed leads. The WP2S, WP3S, WP4S and WP5S are also available in an SMD format with Z-formed leads. The resistors are ideal for high reliability industrial application as the technology removes the excessive temperature risk associated with conventional wirewound resistors. Produced on a high purity ceramic substrate, the resistors are assembled with interference fit end caps to which terminations are welded. The resistive element is wound on the substrate and welded to the caps. Flameproof silicone cement coating is applied prior to marking with indelible link. The components are then leadformed, if required. The range contains seven sizes of compact flameproof wirewound power resistors with ratings of 1, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, and 7 W.
