Malvern, Penna.—Vishay Intertechnology’s SiP12502/3 boost converter ICs are designed to maximize the power available from single- and dual-cell NiMH or alkaline battery packs. Working from a battery input down to 0.85 volt and delivering up to 500 mA, the SiP12502 and SiP12503 provide up to 85 percent DC/DC conversion efficiency for cordless phones to medical diagnostic tools, LCD and OLED bias systems, and wireless LANs and routers.
Working from a 0.85- to 5-volt input, the new devices offer a choice of fixed 2-, 3.3, and 5-volt (SiP12502) or adjustable 2- to 5-volt (SiP12503) output.
These ICs automatically switch between PWM operation under normal load conditions and PFM mode under light load conditions to maximize efficiency. Their shutdown current is less than 1 microamp. Over-voltage and
thermal shutdown protection are included. Other operational features include under-voltage lockout and soft-start. The fixed-output SiP12502 provides a power-good output on pin 4. The devices' voltage-mode control loop is internally compensated to further simplify converter design and reduce external parts count. Each
