Dallas, Tex.Tundra Semiconductor Corp. has launched its third-generation Serial RapidIO switch that features multicast capability for next-generation wireless and video infrastructure platforms.
The Tsi578 Serial RapidIO switch is based on the most recent release of the Serial RapidIO specification v1.3. The Tsi578 interconnects Serial RapidIO-enabled processors and peripherals devices, supporting an aggregate bandwidth of 80-Gbits/s. The Tsi578 is a highly scalable switch designed to accelerate the integration of Serial RapidIO in ATCA and MicroTCA architectures.
Building on its Tsi568A Serial RapidIO Switch, the Tsi578 has been enhanced with fabric switching capabilities through the addition of multicast, traffic management through scheduling algorithms, programmable buffer depth, and fabric performance monitoring to supervise and manage traffic flow. The Tsi578 is capable of routing packets to more than 64,000 endpoints.
The Tsi578's port flexibility supports up to eight 4x mode ports or 16 1x mode ports, with each port configurable to 1.25-Gbits/s, 2.5-Gbits/s or 3.125 Gbits/s. All of the switch's ports are completely independent and will support mixed configurations of width and speed. The Tsi578 also features an integrated high-speed, full-duplex SerDes with 8b/10b encoding.
"The momentum behind Tundra's expanding portfolio of Serial RapidIO switches is a strong indicator of the increasing growth of the market for RapidIO-based products," said Tom Cox, executive director of the RapidIO Trade Association, Austin Tex.
RapidIO technology is a scalable, packet-switched, high-performance fabric specifically developed to address the needs of equipment designers in the wireless infrastructure, edge networking, storage, scientific, military and industrial markets. The Tsi578 Serial RapidIO switch will be sampling in August 2006. Volume pricing is less than $99 each. The Tsi578 is implemented in 0.13-micron CMOS technology and is forward compatible with the Tsi568A. It is packaged in a 27-mm x 27-mm, 675-ball FCBGA package. The device requires 1.2-V and 3.3-V power supplies and is rated for industrial and commercial temperature operations. The switch also supports IEEE 1149.6 JTAG standard for high speed interconnects.
