Harrow, Middlesex, UKRadiometrix has introduced the NiM2, a narrow band transceiver module which is optimized for low-power, making it well suited for low power applications where existing single frequency wideband UHF modules lack sufficient range. The NiM2 supports data rates of up to 10kbps, and distances of more than 500m.
The module delivers a transmit power of +10dBm (10mW), while its receiver sensitivity is -118dBm (for 12dB SINAD). Standard frequencies provided are 434.65 and 434.075MHz, but custom versions, with frequencies occupying the 433MHz (EU license-exempt) band are also available. Channel spacing is 25 kHz, and they can be run off a low-current +2.9 to +15VDC supply.
The transmit section consists of a frequency modulated voltage controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO) feeding a frequency multiplier and two stage amplifier. The receive section is a double conversion FM superhet with IF at 21.4MHz and 455 kHz. The signal path includes a SAW-based RF filtering which give image rejection levels of 50dB or better. The device conforms fully with both ETSI EN 300 220-3 (radio) and EN 301 489-3 (EMC) regulatory standards.
