Boca Raton, Fla.—Touting highly integrated packaging, Artesyn says its LDO-C and SIL-C2 point-of-load (POL, nonisolated) converter families, spanning from 3 up to 40 amps in five versions, offer a dramatic savings in board real-estate. The 3-amp model has a footprint of just 0.61-by-0.37 inches, and the 40-amp model is just 1.1-by-1.2 inches.
Three of these wide-input modules, in the LDO-C family, include 3-, 6-, and 10-amp outputs. The remaining modules, part of the company's SIL-C2 family, have 20- and 40-amp outputs. All are available with a choice of vertical or (low-profile) horizontal through-hole mounting, or horizontal surface mounting.
The LDO-C converters, working from a 3 to 13.8-volt input, deliver an adjustable 0.59 to 5.1 VDC. The SIL-C2 converters, working from 4.5 to 13.8 VDC, provide 0.59 to 5.1 volts for the 20 amp model (SIL20C2), and 0.6 to 5 volts for the 40-amp model (SIL40C2). Typical specifications (at +25°C) for the LDO03C include a line regulation of ±0.5 percent, load regulation of ±0.5 percent, ripple and noise of 25 mV, and transient response of 20 microseconds for a 10 A/microsecond slew rate and 50 percent change in load to full output, or vice versa; for the SIL40C2, ±0.2 percent, ±0.5 percent, 25 mV, and 30 microseconds for a 25 percent change in load to full output, respectively. MTBF for the converters is a minimum of 10 million hours, as per Bellcore 332 testing.
The converters use a fixed-frequency switching topology to maximize efficiency (e.g., 1.5 MHz for the LDO03C, 500 kHz for the SIL40C2). All employ open-frame, single-board construction to simplify thermal management in a forced air environment. The converters are rated for operation over 0 to +70°C, suitably derated.
The converters are comprehensively protected against short-circuit and over-voltage conditions and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 (TV Product Service) and UL/cUL60950.
