Geneva, SwitzerlandSTMicroelectronics has announced the ST7540, a new power line transceiver for narrowband power line communications designed for space constrained and cost-sensitive home and building automation applications and remote monitoring systems.
The ST7540 is a half duplex binary-FSK (frequency shift keying) transceiver designed for two-way network communication over power lines, with eight selectable carrier frequencies, covering CENELEC bands A, B and C, and 4 programmable baud rates from 600 to 4800 bits/s.
Housed in a 28-pin package, the ST7540 integrates a single ended power amplifier (PA) with accessible input and output lines that can be used with a few external signal components as part of a tunable active filter for the transmission path. The ST7540 features an on-chip 3.3V and 5V voltage regulator, a programmable header recognition and frame length count, and programmable output level freezing.
The transceiver is well suited for use in compact home and building automation as well as outdoor applicaitons such as small street lighting controllers and cost-effective Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) systems.
The ST7540 is available now in sample quantities, in the 28-pin HTSSOP28 exposed pad package. Volume pricing is appx. $5.00 (1000 qty.)
