Parsippany, New Jersey and Ismaning, GermanyWireless test vendor Willtek Communications has two options for testing 1xEV-DO (EVolution-Data Only) wireless devices.
The company's existing 4400 Mobile Phone Tester Series, with these options, is now suitable for use by engineers at manufacturing sites, as well as by technicians at field repair centers.
In service environments it can use built-in test scripts to automate typical test steps. Of course, it can work in a manual mode for fault finding.
As a multi-format cellular phone tester, the Model 4400 already supported GSM, GPRS, EDGE, CDMA2000 1xRTT, WCDMA, TD-SCDMA, but now also supports 1xEV-DO. The 1xEV-DO testing options run on the newest version of the 4400 Series. The newest version is also enhanced for faster measurements, and packs up-to-date control interfaces.
The 4400 cellphone tester now comes with an enhanced control processor board that speeds up measurements. Indeed, the company claims automated test scripts running on the 4400 reduce test times by 40-percent for CDMA and 60-percent for GSM. A 4400 can also slash production down-time because one test station can switch from one technology to another quite quickly.
Willtek's improved tester now also includes a LAN (local area network) connector as a standard feature at no additional cost (LAN connectivity was an option on the predecessor 4400 Series instruments). As such, you can use an Ethernet connection for remote control, for central storage of test results, and for central distribution of software updates and test scripts.
Three USB (Universal Serial Bus) connectors have also been added to the latest 4400 Series. USB replaces the floppy disk drive and PCMCIA PC Card slots of the former version.
Leveraging the USB port, Willtek now ships a USB memory stick with each new 4400. The memory stick supports data exchange between instruments, or between a 4400 and your PC. You can use the stick to distribute test scripts and new instrument software, or to collect result log files from tests.
The 1xEV-DO Option
A 4452 1xEV-DO Non-Call Mode Option and the 4400 are already available; the completed 4453 1xEV-DO Call-Mode Option will be available as a software update.
The 4400 with the 1xEV-DO option forms a test system for wireless devices such as mobile phones, wireless PDAs (personal digital assistants), and PCMCIA PC Cards. Production sites can use it to precisely align a phone's transmitter.
Service centers and a repair loop within manufacturing sites can use the 4400 with 1xEV-DO to check overall transmitter and receiver quality of wireless devices when operating in non-call or call modes. These checks are based on measurements of modulation quality, transmit power quality, RF spectrum, and receiver sensitivity.
