LAS VEGAS Zaxel Systems Inc., which has demonstrated its Zaxel Lossless Compression algorithms at previous National Association of Broadcasters conferences, came to NAB this week a video server implementing ZLC.
Zaxel also announced the integration of ZLC codec intellectual property into an Aja Video Systems Inc. HD-SDI I/O card for OEMs.
The Zaxel video server is aimed at professional video, health care, surveillance and CAD applications. It offers 2k and 4k imaging with storage requirements that are said to be less than one-third the requirement for traditional compression. The company showed its server with quad monitors with 4k image output.
RGB videos can be streamed through a dual-link HD-SDI interface. The lossless compression allows videos to be inserted directly into PowerPoint presentations with clipped windows, according to Zaxel. Streaming speeds of 500 Mbytes/second or 4 Gbits/s can be achieved using standard PCs. The server runs on Windows platforms with a single Xeon or dual Xeon processors.
The Aja card with embedded ZLC can provide real-time record and playback with no latency, as well as bit-for-bit restoration through multiple codec cycles, Zaxel said.
