St. Louis, Mo. Laird Technologies has introduced PORON Conductive Fabric (PCF) gaskets for liquid crystal display (LCD) cushioning and EMI protection in handheld devices such as mobile phones, GPS receivers, barcode scanners, graphics tablets and personal data assistants (PDAs).
The gaskets are RoHS-compliant EMI shields comprised of Rogers PORON urethanes, and Laird Technologies' proprietary fabric and conductive adhesive. This combination is said to reduce the number of required parts and eliminate the need for a high-cost stamping tool that can slow down production lines.
The unique PCF design also reduces the weight of handheld products since it replaces the conventional metal stamping frame. PCF gaskets can be die-cut specifically to fit underneath the LCD screen in handheld devices. Standard roll sizes are 500-mm wide x 50 meters in length.
The average cost for PCF gaskets (3 x 3 cm die-cut part) is 10 cents. Other sizes are available.
