Marlboro, Mass.Expanding its existing DT9836 Series of data-acq modules, which I recently reviewed here at eeProductCenter, data acquisition vendor Data Translation announces its DT9836-06-4-OEM.
As the newest member of the DT9836 Series of simultaneous multi-function modules for USB 2.0 (480-Mbit/s Universal Serial Bus), the DT9836-06-4-OEM lets you generate highly accurate arbitrary waveforms on up to four output channels at throughput speeds of 500-kHz each. It should fill the bill for quite a few moderate-speed set-ups.
The DT9836-06-4-OEM can also ensure gap-free simultaneous stimulus and response. The feature set of the DT9836-06-04 also lets you update analog input and output data at the same instant in time.
According to Data Translation, care has been taken in the design of the DT9836-06-4-OEM to minimize glitch energy, resulting in its ability to create extremely smooth waveforms. Standard waveforms such as sine, triangle, and square waves are produced by loading the system's output memory and triggering them synchronously or separately. All subsystems operate synchronously at 36-MHz.
The module can accommodate six simultaneous single-ended 16-bit analog inputs, running at 225-kHz/channel, and it uses four 16-bit DACs (digital-to-analog converters) to generate de-glitched waveforms of 500-kHz each.
The DT9836-06-4-OEM also provides 16 digital input lines and 16 digital output lines. These can be used for external event synchronization.
You also get two 32-bit counter time channels for clocking and triggering, and three quadrature decoders that can be used to determine X/Y positioning and rotation.
The DT9836-06-4-OEM ships with Data Translation's Data Acquisition OMNI CD. The CD includes device drivers for Windows 2000 and Windows XP, as well as an evaluation version of the company's DT Measure Foundry. The latter is Data Translation's test-and-measurement application builder.
The CD also contains several additional ready-to-measure applications. For flexibility, the DT9836 Series operates under many prominent popular software applications such as Visual Basic, and National Instruments's popular LabVIEW graphical environment.
Price And Availability
The DT9836-06-4-OEM module, available in a packaging configuration for embedding directly into test systems, is priced at less than about $2100. The module ships with a USB 2.0 cable and is available immediately.
