Malvern, Pa. Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has announced that its group of five Vishay-owned and independent Precision Centers can deliver ultra-high-precision Bulk Metal foil resistors in up to three days.
The Precision Centers are located in Malvern, Pennsylvania; Sterling, Massachusetts; Houston, Texas; St. Paul, Minnesota; and Ontario, California, and all use standard Vishay-approved manufacturing procedures. The facilities do not have any minimum-order requirements, and will provide resistors at any tolerance available within published resistance ranges. By maintaining a stock of foil resistor chips, the Precision Centers will precisely calibrate parts and deliver the product in as little as 72 hours.
Vishay's Z-Foil technology is said to provide a significant reduction of the resistive element's sensitivity to changes of temperature due to ambient temperature variations (TCR) and to self-heating when power is applied (power coefficient of resistance or PCR).
Key characteristics of the Bulk Metal foil resistors include "zero" TCR (±0.2 ppm/°C for the mil range, a PCR of 5 ppm at rated power, and load life stability of 0.005 % (50 ppm) under applied power (2000 hours at 70°C). Other features include tolerance to ±0.005 %, a low current noise of -40 dB, a rise time of 1 ns without ringing, and low thermal EMF of 0.05 uV/°C. RoHS-compliant and lead-free parts are available.
These devices target a wide range of high-precision and high-stability applications in military and aerospace systems, automatic test equipment (ATE), current sensing, down-hole equipment, precision scales, laboratories, high-precision amplifiers, high-precision instrumentation, high-end audio equipment, and medical products and systems.
