El Segundo, Calif. DDP has developed a series of lamp-based LEDs that incorporate built-in shunt resistors to reduce unwanted illumination caused by leakage current. The LS series lamps offer up to 100,000-hour life, shock and vibration resistance, low heat and low power consumption.
Designed as a direct replacement for incandescent bulbs, the LS series offers high reliability and maintenance-free operation for applications in industrial environments, power generation and distribution. They are available in standard or custom assemblies.
The LS series lamps incorporate parallel shunt resistors to bleed off residual current in the circuit that could cause a false "on" indication from potential sources of leakage current including transient voltage from a relay or discharge from a capacitor, said the company. For example, certain programmable logic controllers (PLCs) may supply up to 5 mA of leakage current in the "off" state but because LEDs are efficient, a current as low as 0.25 mA may cause an LED to illuminate.
