Marlboro, Mass. Are you working with low-bandwidth sensors? Need a data-acq system that can be easily expanded to include as many channels as you need? Then check out Data Translation's latest DT9841-VIB systems. They're realtime DSP (digital signal processing) data-acq boards that are also available packaged.
Running 300-MHz Texas Instruments TMS320C6713 chips, these systmes are capable of accepting simultaneous IEPE (integrated electronic piezoelectric) sensor signals. In use, a DT9841-VIB provides excitation, signal conditioning, and anti-aliasing filtering.
As such, these systems can be used for applications requiring piezoelectric accelerometer readings such as automotive test, acoustics, sonar, and rotating machinery.
Data Translation's Sleek Box versions ship with 5-V at 6-A galvanically-isolated power supplies, and power and USB (Universal Serial Bus) cables. Sleek Boxes make connection to sensors using common RF-type BNC connectors.
DT9841-VIBs are also the latest additions to the company's Fulcrum II Series of DSP data acquisition products for 480-Mbit/s USB 2.0.
24-bit Sigma-Delta Conversion
The DT9841-VIB board contains eight simultaneous 24-bit sigma-delta analog input channels, with a sampling rate of 100-kHz/channel. Significantly, this design is quite scalable. You can connect up to eight such modules if you need a high channel-count application.
Analog And Digital Outputs
In addition, the board has two 24-bit de-glitched waveform analog output channels. These could be used to control a shaker table, for example, and stimulate systems under test. The board also packs 16 digital I/O lines for control and monitoring, and three 32-bit counter/timers.
Notably, all subsystems can be run simultaneously and monitored in realtime, with an on-board 32-bit floating point processor.
TheDT9841-VIB supports a number of software-programmable IEPE functions for each of its eight analog inputs. For example, you can enables a 4-mA current source, select either AC or DC coupling, and enable a 2-pole 10-kHz Butterworth filter.
You also can choose a memory configuration, including 128-Mbytes of SDRAM and 2-Mbytes of flash (for autonomous operation).
Comprehensive host and DSP communication libraries ship with the board. These are compatible with the Texas Instruments Code Composer Studio package, and Microsoft Visual Studio. They provide access to all on-board realtime functions and communication to/from your PC.
What's more, you get Data Translation's Ready-to-Measure example application programs with the unit. These programs can exercise every board function. Additionally, the system is supported by Vibrant Technology's MEscope program for post-processing and analysis of acoustic and vibration test data.
Availability And Pricing
The DT9841-VIB is priced at about $5700. It's shipping now.
