West Kingston, RI—American Power Conversion's first fully assembled InfraStruXure system using UPSes from the company's new Smart-UPS VT family is designed to bring new flexibility to small to medium data center applications in the 20-30 kVA range.

In that context, these Smart-UPSes update the company's Silcon series at this power level and for small data center applications. The Smart-UPS with InfraStruXure upstages most competitive offerings, says the company, noting the industry's wide use of "legacy boxes" that don't provide a comparable level of connectivity.
InfraStruXure offers quick-connect components and turnkey features to speed up deployment time. The system is also designed to cut total-cost-of-ownership by minimizing space and reducing operating, installation, and expansion costs. With the modular and scalable design approach, users can expand the system by adding the company's in-row cooling architecture, centralized management, and security products for enhanced capabilities.
Cost-wise, APC touts this network critical physical infrastructure (NCPI) solution as offering a fully-integrated system at a lower initial investment. The single rack-based design facilitates better utilization of floor space, says the company, higher power efficiency for lower operating costs, and a new power distribution design for simplified installation and expansion. The system also improves availability with additional internal battery capacity (up to five additional battery modules) for runtime scalability.
These systems, with 208- and 480-volt input, are now available in North America. InfraStruXure with Smart-UPS VT will be available in July for most countries worldwide.
The base price for the Smart-UPS VT with InfraStruXure system is $27,000.
