Houston, TexasRF components supplier Mimix Broadband, Inc. rolls out samples of its CHV family of internally pre-matched PAs (power amplifiers). They're designed for linear WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) applications.
These surface-mount QFN plastic packaged PAs are slated for operation in 700-MHz, 2.5-GHz, and 3.5-GHz circuits (part numbers CHV2707, CHV2710, and CHV2711, respectively).
For those of you who may care what's inside, Mimix's CHV PAs are fabbed using an InGaP (indium-gallium-phosphide) high-voltage HBT (heterojunction bipolar transistor) process. These PAs also include on-chip diodes for ESD (electro-static discharge) protection.
High Gain, Low Distortion
More importantly, CHV devices provide 11-dB of gain, exhibiting less than 2.5% EVM (error vector magnitude) specs, at 30-dBm output power (excited with an OFDM input signal and a peak-to-average ratio of 9-dB).
CHV devices operate from a single supply voltage up to 12-V, and include internal active bias circuitry. The family includes the added feature of analog adjustment of bias current.
Samples Si, Pricing No
Engineering samples are available from stock in small quantities. Evaluation boards are also available. Unfortunately, Mimix refuses to reveal anything about the pricing specs for these products to the press, claiming it's a "highly competitive market" and these devices are "so very new." Oh well; you're on your own negotiating with Mimix.
Preliminary datasheets are available, however (in Adobe Acrobat .PDF format). Click here for the CHV2710 datasheet and here for the CHV2711 datasheet. They include recommended board layout diagrams. The datasheet for the CHV2707 isn't indicated on Mimix's Web site.
