Menlo Park, Calif. Raychem Circuit Protection, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has rolled out its 2Pro device series that features integrated overcurrent/overvoltage circuit protection technology to prevent damage to telephony communications equipment from power surges.
The 2Pro overcurrent/overvoltage protection device features a hold current of >120 mA. The voltage clamp at 1 mA is 270 V. The device's small footprint, resettable functionality and coordinated protection capabilities allow for use in a variety of telephony and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipment applications such as cordless phones, VoIP gateways, data modems, set-top boxes, security systems, MDF (Main Distribution Frame) modules, analog linecards and ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) linecards.
The RoHS-compliant 2Pro series incorporates PolySwitch PPTC (Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor) overcurrent technology with a metal oxide varistor (MOV) in one thermally-protected device to help provide current limiting during overcurrent events and voltage clamping during overvoltage events. This single-device approach helps reduce component count and improve equipment reliability, said the company.
The 2Pro series helps equipment manufacturers comply with UL 60950 (and remain operational after specified lightning tests), and surge tests per TIA-968-A, IEC 60950, and ITU-T K.20/K.21. The UL 497A listed protector also provides electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. 2Pro devices are compatible with industry standard installation procedures, and are available in tape and reel packaging.
Raychem also offers the PolySwitch TSM600-400 resettable overcurrent protection device to protect communications equipment.
The 2Pro devices are priced at $0.32 in quantities of 100,000 units/year. Delivery is eight to ten weeks.
