Austin, Tex. Eying applications ranging from security systems to consumer devices to ZigBee wireless designs, Freescale Semiconductor is expanding its GT family of 8-bit microcontrollers, adding more memory and more functionality.
The GT16A and GT8A are introduced as a cost reduction to existing parts, and offer drop-in compatibility with the GT family, as well as seamless software migration. Pin compatibility from 8K to 60K flash provides greater flexibility for design, and allows customers to build their own product lines.
The GT16A and GT8A integrate up to 2 Kbytes of RAM and 16K of flash memory allowing designers greater flexibility and improved performance for managing real-time peripheral interaction. By achieving a decreased flash memory voltage level of 1.8V, Freescale supplies customers with advanced capabilities to improve the performance and flexibility of their battery designs.
Example applications for these parts include home security systems, game pads, handheld meters, portable consumer electronics and ZigBee wireless designs. Pricing for the GT16 is $2.11 in quantities of 10,000 pieces. The GT8 is $1.91 in the same quantity bracket.
