Raleigh, N.C. Stackpole Electronics, Inc. has introduced a TO-220 style power film resistor capable of handling up to 20 watts at case temperatures of 25°C. The non-inductive design allows for single screw mounting to a heat sink.
The TR series is available in resistance values from 0.05 ohm to 10 Kohm. Housed in a TO-220 style power package, the molded case of the devices is isolated from the resistor itself, which allows for easy mounting to a heat sink. Tolerances are available as low as 1% and temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) is as low as 50 ppm, which meets even the most stringent power resistor requirements, said the company.
The TR 20 size, because of its lower power rating, does not require a screw hole for heat sink mounting. The TR 25 and TR 30 both have screw holes to provide a reliable bond to a heat sink. The devices are said to offer excellent electrical and environmental stability.
The TR series resistors are suitable for high-speed switching power supplies, voltage regulation, load resistors for pulse generators, snubber circuits, power amplifiers, UPS systems, frequency balancing and conversion, and many types of power supplies and industrial grade controls.
Pricing for the TR Series ranges from $0.75 to $1.50, depending on quantity and tolerance. Delivery is six to eight weeks.
