NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- Conexant
Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications and the digital home, further solidified its industry-leading DVB-S2 market position with shipments of the world's first DVB-S2 satellite set-top box (STB) demodulator and forward error correction (FEC) decoder exceeding 1 million units. Conexant was the first company in the world to introduce a DVB-S2-compliant device, which enables operators to deliver basic local programming and additional, high-value content such as high-definition television (HDTV) channels and interactive services using their existing bandwidth and infrastructure.
The company's DVB-S2 customers include industry-leading satellite operators BSkyB, DIRECTV, SKY Italia and Premiere, and STB developers Amstrad, Humax, LG Electronics, and Pace Micro Technology.
"We are intensely focused on delivering compelling media processing solutions for today's digital lifestyle," said Lewis Brewster, executive vice president and general manager of Conexant's Broadband Media Processing business. "As a result, we were able to
deliver the world's first DVB-S2 demodulator, providing our customers with a technical innovation that allows them to capitalize on new, revenue-generating market opportunities. I am proud of our team's significant accomplishment, and will continue to concentrate our
development efforts on new products based on the most advanced technology standards."
Conexant's CX24116 satellite STB demodulator and FEC decoder was the world's first semiconductor solution based on the next-generation digital video broadcast DVB-S2 standard. DVB-S2 provides a 30 percent
capacity increase over the existing DVB-S standard.
Conexant offers a comprehensive suite of digital STB components and system solutions for worldwide satellite, terrestrial and cable entertainment broadcasting networks. The company's product offering
includes silicon tuners, satellite demodulators, MPEG audio and video decoders, and dial-up modems for back-channel applications. Reference designs that help manufacturers reduce cost and speed time-to-market
are also available, bundled with a range of operating systems, middleware, drivers and development tools.
Conexant's innovative semiconductor solutions are driving broadband communications and digital home networks worldwide. The company has leveraged its expertise and leadership position in modem technologies to enable more Internet connections than all of its competitors combined, and continues to develop highly integrated silicon solutions for broadband data and media processing networks.
Key products include client-side xDSL and cable modem solutions, home network processors, broadcast video encoders and decoders, digital set-top box components and systems solutions, and dial-up modems. Conexant's suite of networking components includes a
leadership portfolio of IEEE 802.11-compliant WLAN chipsets, software and reference designs, as well as solutions for applications based on HomePlug(R) and HomePNA(TM). The company also offers a complete line
