SAN FRANCISCO Programmable logic supplier Actel Corp. Monday (Aug. 21) rolled out its third-generation FPGA programming tool, Silicon Sculptor 3.
According to Actel (Mountain View, Calif.), Silicon Sculptor 3 includes a high-speed USB 2.0 interface that customers to connect as many as 12 programmers to a single PC. The tool is compatible with adapter modules from Silicon Sculptor II, the company said.
"Silicon Sculptor 3 provides a cost-effective solution for system designers and small- to mid-sized production centers, allowing them to expand programming capabilities without acquiring additional PCs or software," said Jake Chuang, senior director of marketing for application solutions at Actel.
Silicon Sculptor 3 includes an antifuse-based Axcelerator FPGA. The tool offers 64 MB of internal memory, Actel said, a four-fold increase in memory size compared with the previous generation programmer, as well as faster data processing,
Protection features include over-current and power failure shutdowns as well as electrostatic discharge protection, Actel said. A banana jack for ESD wrist straps is also included, the company said.
Silicon Sculptor 3 is available now for $3,400. The tool is compliant with Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional. More information is available on Actel's Web site.
