Milpitas, Calif.Linear Technology Corp. has introduced the LTC2856/LTC2857/LTC2858 low power RS-485/RS-422 transceivers that can operate up to 20-Mbits/s or 250-Kbits/s for low EMI and provide ESD protection up to ±15-kV.
The LTC2856-1, LTC2857-1 and LTC2858-1 operate at maximum data rates of 20-Mbits/s, while the LTC2856-2, LTC2857-2 and LTC2858-2 feature 250-kbits/s slew rate limited driver outputs to control high frequency emission from equipment and data cables. The devices are aimed at the consumer, industrial, medical and automotive markets.
Enhanced ESD protection on the transceiver interface pins allows the LTC2856/LTC2857/LTC2858 devices to withstand ±15-kV for ESD strikes (Human Body Model) without latchup or damage. The receiver fail-safe feature further enhances the devices' operation by guaranteeing a high output state under floating or shorted input conditions.
The receivers of the LTC2856, LTC2857 and LTC2858 have a one-eighth unit load, supporting up to 256 devices on the bus, while the drivers of all the devices maintain a high output impedance over the entire common mode range when disabled or when the supply is removed. Excessive power dissipation caused by bus contention or a fault is prevented by current limiting all outputs and by thermal shutdown.
Operating on 5-V supplies, the LTC2856, LTC2857, and LTC2858 RS-485/RS-422 transceivers are offered in 8-pin and 10-pin MSOP and 3-mm x 3-mm DFN packages.
Pricing for the LTC2856/LTC2857/LTC2858 begins at $1.45 each in 1000-piece quantities.
